Budget Overclocker

This blog is decicated to the trials and tribulations of overclocking on a budget.

Seems like Intel must be holding something back ... they have slowed their releases of new product which feels like a specific reaction to the fact that AMD isn't giving them any real competition right now. AMD's Phenom was a disappointment .. although it was an improvement over the X2 chips it did not set a new standard for personal computing. Phenom certainly didn't create performance increases the way the Opteron class did in the past.

But this conservative release approach from Intel does not mean that they aren't moving ahead with technology development. In fact you don't have to look any further than the q6600 core duo quads to see that Intel is continualy getting better at making these chips. The SLACR or GO revision was a measurable improvement over the already impressive B3 chips in the Q6600 stable. Measurably cooler, and measurably better at overclocking, the SLACR has become the sweet-spot in the duo quad line-up.
